Gregg Shelby, Founder

In the late-eighties Mr. Shelby, a veteran television and film Director/Producer, spread his creative wings to include interior design and architecture as part of his repertoire. While he was at the top of his game in the industry as a director, he felt compelled to study and train in both the interior design and architecture fields. This was a natural avenue for him because similar disciplines are an integral component of film making. 

The difference between interior design work and set designs or art-direction for TV or movies is the how the design is applied as a tool to reinforce the message of a films storyline, or on second thought, perhaps there is little difference between these two applications. A set design or film location supports the emotion intended by both the scriptwriter and director. Imagine if you will, the difference between the visual einvlorment of a comedy verse a drama or horror film. Much in the way music plays an important roll to craft the storytelling, equally reverent are the visuals, dialogue and the actors performances, these different attributes form a synergy which supports the desired impact. This is analogous to artist who blends the colors with style, drama and the message intended by the creator. It has been said that ‘Design is the universal language”, a person simply has to observe a well designed space to comprehend a feeling without words. This is exactly the goal most client’s strive to achieve, by engaging a designer who can fill their space with inspiration based on talent and experience a client arrives at the ultimate desire of self-expression.

Mr. Shelby’s career in the film industry soon developed his approach and well recognized talent in both the interior design and architecture fields. In addition he is a forth generation designer and builder on both sides of his parents family, creating and designing projects all over the world. As a child and young man he worked along side his father and two uncles from both sides of his family, building and sometimes remodeling homes, spending time working on his skills in each of the trades, at the age of twenty-one, he built a home for himself, on a lake just west of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Thirty-eight homes later, for either speculative resale or for his personal use, Mr. Shelby became known to his colleagues in the film industry, as the designer and builder that just happens to be a producer/director. 

Mr. Shelby has been engaged by hundreds of domestics and international clients, providing exceptional designs, construction or project management services. His brand is often defined or influenced by his expertise and stylings in the film industry, he calls it his “Inner eye”, he starts by studying his clients wants, needs and desires and forms them into an inspirational plan and vision, he appeals to the emotional tigers of the client and helps them refine their expression of the style they wish to project to others.

Finally, Mr. Shelby brings a management acumen to our projects based on his personal involvement with the logistics in the film industry. Whether it was a smaller budget or mega project in the tens of millions of dollars, he transferred this experience to our design and management team, applying it to our firm’s skilled business approach. Over time the Shelby Design Group, has developed its own collective, “inner eye”, to benefit our clients by surpassing their expectations. We achieve this by helping them understand the design choices, scale or size of the furniture or art, as they relate to the space of their environment. We consider the Interior design and scale along with the composition as the perfect trifecta leadings to the ultimate success of the finished project. This is why everyone in our organization is hand selected, our goal is to apply this important process to the extended family of professionals working on projects for our clients. Contractors and other professionals are vetted and constantly evaluated so we can provide a cohesive approach to serving our clients.

Mr. Shelby has spent years sharing his business and design approach with the lead designer, Mr. Antonio Shelby, refining their techniques, passion and experience. They share a mutual vision and attention to detail that perhaps clients have not experienced before. At the Shelby Design Group, our imagination, respect and professionalism is not our company slogan, it is the way we treat our clients and it is our philosophy of doing business. 

Antonio, Lead Designer

Interior Design came naturally to Antonio, he was born in Costa Rica, Central America, a country with a rich history influenced by Colonial design. Equally important was the inspiring interior and exterior designs brought to his country from Spain and Germany, with a spectrum ranging from the classic to the contemporary.

Antonio’s formative years set him on a clear path reaching through College and focusing on two careers, Interior Design and Civil Engineering. At first glance one might wonder how these very different disciplines interface with each other. Actually, both areas of his education are the perfect compliment to his career, design is considered the “form or concept of an object” and the function of any design requires engineering and the knowledge of human ergonomics for comfort and durability, this is often high on the list of criteria for most clients.

Antonio’s early career set his refined skills in motion, working on both residential and commercial projects, often including both an interior and exterior design discipline, as well as, project management and logistics on a grand scale. He sharpened his professionalism while working as the Project Manager, for the construction of multiple Walmart retailers throughout Central America. His expertise was well sought after for commercial and residential construction, civil engineering, project management and interior design.

His down to earth perspective and style is intuitive and refreshing. He is eager to please and instinctively tunes into the wishes and needs of his clients, while guiding them with confidence reflected by his extensive worldly skills.

Antonio was born for this journey and that of his client's, it’s clearly evident by his passion and years of outstanding results that he is driven by excellence.
